Claude Adrien Helvetius

Claude Adrien Helvetius
Birth 1715
Death 1771

French deist philosopher. He believed in God as an abstract higher being who could not possibly have created the world. He said that the belief that God is watching our every move and that the soul is immortal comes from our miscomprehension of nature, and that the Christian religion knowingly perpetuated this ignorance in order to exploit people. He thought that everything we do is motivated by passionate self-love.
