Cyril of Alexandria

Cyril of Alexandria
Birth 376
Death 444

Theologian, sworn enemy of John Chrysostom and active in church politics, he drove all ‘heretics’ and Jews out of Alexandria. He wrote about the divine incarnation and how Christ’s human and divine natures are interrelated. He sentenced the outstanding Greek scholar Hypatia to death. This story is very well depicted in the Hollywood film Agora.
