Eric Hoffer

Eric Hoffer
Birth 1902
Death 1983

Self-taught American philosopher, famous for the book The True Believer about the phenomenon of mass religious and revolutionary movements, or, in other words, zealots and extremists. You can trust Hoffer’s opinions about the lower classes; he did seasonal work as a longshoreman his whole life. Common people think the whole world is corrupt, don’t like to rationalise, don’t value the present moment and huddle together in packs so as to raze everything to the ground under the noble pretext of radical change.
