Francis Bacon

Francis Bacon
Birth 1561
Death 1626

Aristocrat, politician and philosopher, he paved the way for Hobbes, Locke, Hume, Holbach and Diderot. He demanded that religion and science be kept separate; God created mankind and gave him knowledge of good and evil, but nature can only be understood through science. He was among the first empiricists and it was he who said ‘knowledge is power’.
