Herbert Marcuse

Herbert Marcuse
Birth 1898
Death 1979

Philosopher and sociologist who adopted the ideas of Marx, Freud and Heidegger. The rise of totalitarianism and consumerist society in the 20th Century put a real damper on his Marxism, destroyed his faith in the hegemony of the working class and led him to the conclusion that everyone brainwashed and one-dimensional and that everyone, without exception, is manipulated by the media. Mavericks and avant-gardists are the one ones that move things forward.
