John Cobb

John Cobb
Birth 1925

American religious philosopher, who employs Alfred Whitehead’s ‘process theology’. He is all for reconciling religion and science. He rejects the idea that God is omniscient, unchanging and indifferent (whilst still being perfect), as these attributes don’t fit with God’s innately loving nature and his desire to give people ‘free will’, to liberate and empower them. The idea that God is like an understanding friend fits better with the Bible, where Jesus suffers and dies.
