Ludwig Andreas von Feuerbach

Ludwig Andreas von Feuerbach
Birth 1804
Death 1872

German materialist philosopher who was Karl Marx’s icon. He believed that immaterial ideas were a human construct, so it followed that virtue must originate from mankind, not God. He saw religious dogma as a manmade metaphysical illusion; man deprives himself of freedom, transcendental consciousness and creativity in order to project these things onto an imaginary God: ‘To enrich God, man must become poor’ .1
