Marcion of Sinope

Birth 85
Death 160

Theologian, heretical Gnostic, extreme ascetic. He suggested that Jesus was never born; he appeared to people in an immaterial form to help liberate them from the material world. He built on what Saint Paul had said about the fundamental contradiction between the Old and New Testaments. He renounced marriage and demanded chastity after christening, which is why he ended up in the chapter ‘Holy Celibacy and Good-natured Paedophiles’.
