Martin Luther

Martin Luther
Birth 1483
Death 1546

Theologian and church reformer who transformed the European world and laid the foundations for the market economy. Returning to ‘pure’ early Christianity, he turned to the Bible as the only source of truth and refused to consider the Church and clergy as mediators between man and God, ‘more equal than others’. He argued that God’s grace permeates man’s every deed, whether ‘secular’ or ‘spiritual’, and that the two are not mutually exclusive. The best way to serve God is in tirelessly doing your duty and working hard.
