Søren Kierkegaard

Søren Kierkegaard
Birth 1813
Death 1855

Danish philosopher, writer and theologian who led the way for the existentialism of Satre and others. He believed that everyone has freedom of choice and is struck with fear and sorrow at having to search for meaning in life. He questioned whether reason was the highest criteria for truth, saying human subjectivity was instead. We expanded on Kierkegaard’s views in the chapter ‘The great battle with pleasure’.
