William Blake

William Blake
Birth 1757
Death 1827

Poet and artist. One of those rare people that contemporaries dismissed as a mad eccentric and future generations embraced as a genius. He took inspiration from the Bible, but rejected the way Christianity separates the body and soul, loves suffering, suppresses natural desires and promotes chastity. He despised slavery and thought of marriage as a kind of slavedom. He thought that everyone was a god like Jesus Christ, including prostitutes and homosexuals. He also illustrated The Book of Job, which we really rate.
